Why Jax Muay Thai

Jax Muay Thai (JMT) was started in 2010 as a place for Kru Giles to train his then 4 year old daughter and some of her friends. From the very beginning, the focus was on a creating a space that felt like a second home, with coaches and friends who supported you on your martial arts journey, no egos,no judgement, just a mutual love of martial arts and all of the wonderful benefits they can bring to your life.

At Jax Muay Thai – martial arts are not just our hobby, they’re our passion and full time job. Most of our coaches train 6 days a week and have competed at the highest level Nationally and Internationally. Every year we bring in world renowned fighters and coaches to raise our standards and every year we travel to compete against and learn from the best of the best.

But, far beyond competition, for our coaches and students Martial Arts are a way of life. Most plan to be practicing, in some manner, for the rest of their lives. And, the lessons learned in training carry over and positively impact every aspect of this human experience.

Over the last decade we’ve built up an amazing team of coaches who each bring their own strengths and flavor to JMT and we’ve established an amazing supportive community that is more like a second family to most of our students.

Whatever, your goals, whether it’s to lose weight and learn self defense, release stress and learn some new skills, or, perhaps, you dream of testing yourself in the ring one day. Whatever your goals you’ll find like minded students and coaches who would love to help you achieve them at JMT!

The Junior Muay Thai Program at JMT is built upon the principles of R.I.S.E (Respect, Integrity, Self Discipline, & Excellence) These principles are constantly stressed throughout class.

Parent’s regularly tell us they can’t believe the positive changes in their child after just a few weeks of regular training.

Mini-Muay Thai

The class that started it all.

A class specifically for the youngest students; aged 3-7 years old. This class helps students to focus and learn to listen to instructions through the use of games and drills.
They’ll learn all the import aspects of basic martial arts and self defense but most importantly they’ll build their confidence in themselves. The Warrior Within

Meditation – Come and learn the science of meditation. During our meditation class, you will be given valuable tools to learn about deeper states of your mind. This class is perfect for people of any spiritual or religious background, or none at all, this is about learning how to better use your mind in order to be more present, productive and focused when needed, and also how to better relax and enjoy life. Absolutely no experience is necessary, in fact, the less you know about meditation, the better your meditation will often be.

In class we will cover many different types of meditation ranging from Hindu, yogic, Buddhist, Sufi, and various western concepts of meditation, and you will discover which methods work best for you personally.

Yoga – Yoga is a Sanskrit word which means to “unite”. In class we learn how to unite the body with the mind, bringing them in harmony with each other, so that we may become more complete human beings. Muay Thai requires amazing flexibility, as well as mental toughness. In our Yoga class we work on relaxing the nervous system by holding various postures (also called asanas) for extended periods of time, so that the central nervous system becomes relaxed, and your flexibility increases. To train the nervous system, we use our mind as a tool to condition the body to become stronger, achieving superior mental and physical strength.

Functional Flexibility
This class focuses on the mental and physical awareness of the body through strengthening, lengthening, and proper stretching of the joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and fascia. The approach of the class is from Hilly Bodin who is a classically trained professional dancer, instructor and choreographer. Her speciality is incorporating some of the fundamental exercises regarding balance and stability (that of a ballet dancer) combined with the movement in Muay Boran, “ancient boxing,” that we see condensed forms of within the Muay Thai class.

The goal for this class is to not only be more flexible, but to broaden our understanding of the physical mechanics of the body, injury prevention, overall mobility for the practitioner of all ages, and LONGEVITY. This class is open to everyone of all levels, with opportunities to find modifications in the class’s curriculum for one’s limitations and needs. Bring your friends! *Private lessons are available on weekends through the Jax Muay Thai private pricing sheet.

Fighting Fit – Class consists of high intensity conditioning to get you ready for a fight. This fast paced class will challenge you both mentally and physically to push you past your comfort zone. A typical class includes pad rounds, kettlebell swings, ball slams, jump rope, partner drills, all with very little time to rest in between. We want to make you strong as an Ox, and fast as a cheetah. The intense pace of the class is then followed by a final 15 minutes of deep stretching / relaxation. Come and get fighting fit!
